How to stop Ultrasurf from popping up
Ultrasurf is a proxy tool. If its window or extension keeps returning, remove the program, the browser add-on, and the proxy setting it left behind.

Uninstall the app
On Windows, remove Ultrasurf from Installed apps, then restart. On a phone, delete the app and check for a related VPN profile under system VPN settings. Deleting the icon is not the same as deleting the profile.
Clear the browser piece
Open extensions and remove Ultrasurf or any “proxy helper” you do not recognize. Then look at the browser’s proxy settings and set them back to the system default. A leftover proxy is why the pop-up survives the uninstall.
Check what starts with the computer
Task manager’s startup list, or the Mac login items, sometimes keeps a helper. Turn it off. If the pop-up returns after that, something else is reinstalling it — a second admin account, or a “free VPN” bundle.
If you did not install it
Treat it like unwanted software. Run the system’s malware scan, and change passwords from a clean device if a browser you do not trust has been proxying your traffic.
Watch for this
- Do not download a random “Ultrasurf remover.” Use the operating system’s own uninstall.
- Workplace machines: ask IT. Removing their proxy can break access and break policy.
When to get help
If the software reappears after a clean uninstall, a technician should look for a persistent installer.
