How to stop dog urine from killing grass
Those yellow circles are nitrogen burn and salt, not a moral failing. Dilute the spot, rotate the bathroom, and ask a vet before you change the diet.

Water the spot right away
A watering can on the fresh patch dilutes urine before it scorches. This is the “natural” step that actually works. Doing it in the morning for yesterday’s spots still helps the soil.
Give the lawn a bathroom that is not the lawn
A mulch or gravel corner, trained with a leash and a treat, saves the rest of the yard. Small dogs make intense spots; one corner contains them.
Repair, don’t paint
Rake dead grass, add a little compost, and reseed in the right season. Gypsum is sometimes used on salty soil; it is not a miracle and it is the wrong product for every yard. A garden center can look at your soil.
Leave the diet alone unless a vet is in on it
Random supplements and “urine neutralizer” chews are a crowded aisle with thin evidence. Extra water in the bowl is the safe diet change. Anything else goes through the vet, especially if the dog is a puppy.
Watch for this
- Straining to urinate or blood in urine is a medical emergency, not a lawn issue.
When to get help
Ask a vet before supplements. Ask a local extension office before you rebuild the soil.
