Agencies make money when you work, not when you pay them a large fee up front. The useful guide is how to spot the other kind.

Shoot a simple set of photos
Natural light, no heavy filter, full length and a close portrait, clothes that show how you actually stand. A costly “portfolio package” sold in a mall is the classic first loss. You can upgrade photos after someone legitimate asks.
Apply where the agency’s models are real
Look up established agencies, use their public submission form, and verify the email domain. A scout who insists on WhatsApp, secrecy, and a payment link is not in a hurry — they are avoiding a paper trail.
Never pay a large upfront “registration”
Test shoots you choose to buy are optional. A fee to be “submitted to clients,” especially in a hotel conference room, is a sales event. Real commissions come out of work you booked.
Protect the person, especially if they are young
Minors need a guardian at every meeting. No one legitimate requires nudity to “see if you have the look” at a first casting. Tell a friend the address. Leave if the room is wrong. Contracts are readable at home, not signed in a stairwell.

- Romance-or-travel offers tied to modeling are a trafficking pattern. Walk away and tell someone.
- Your measurements are not a moral score. Health comes before a sample size.
